AM RISE Studio
Aisha Daritza Muhammad (b. 1999) is a Black Latina Contemporary Figurative Visual Artist from Panamá, based in North Carolina. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, she creates contemporary figurative paintings that explore healing, identity, memory, and the experiences that shape who we become. Drawing from personal experiences, her Panamanian heritage, family relationships, observations, and daily life, her work reflects on how both love and hardship influence personal growth.
Rather than pursuing realism, Aisha creates simplified figurative forms with expressive gestures, elongated proportions, and organic shapes that emphasize emotion, movement, and human connection. Through posture, composition, and the relationships between her figures, she creates quiet, reflective spaces where viewers are invited to bring their own experiences and interpretations to the work.
Her ongoing series, Feed the Sun in Me, explores how our experiences influence the way we see ourselves, the choices we make, and the people we continue becoming. Rather than suggesting that our past defines us, the series considers how people grow through both nurturing and difficult experiences, recognizing that while our experiences influence us, we each choose what we carry forward.
While the ideas explored in her work are universal, the visual language is deeply personal. Influenced by her Panamanian heritage and her perspective as a Black Latina woman, Aisha incorporates cultural references, contemporary figurative forms, expressive gestures, and organic shapes that reflect her own lived experiences while leaving space for viewers to discover their own meaning within the work.
She believes that although every person's journey is unique, the emotions, questions, and experiences we carry often connect us in meaningful ways.
Through AM Rise Studio, she hopes to create paintings that encourage reflection, conversation, and a deeper understanding of ourselves and one another.
